Water Tower Painting Begins

The Lakeway Municipal Utility District believes that, with proper maintenance, water towers can last indefinitely. Accordingly, the District has contracted with Phoenix Tank Services to recoat the exterior and interior of all three of our elevated water storage tanks.  This type of maintenance is required periodically on all such tanks.  Phoenix has already commenced work on the 500,000 gallon tank at the end of Twin Hills Court .  The Twin Hills project will proceed for several weeks.  The other two tanks, the local landmark “Golf Ball” water tower, and the similar one near the World of Tennis, will also be done this spring and early summer.  The specific work will include:

Minor repairs to metal
Power tool cleaning and priming any rusted areas on the exterior
Power washing the complete exterior
Over coating the complete exterior similar to the existing color
Replacing the “Lakeway” logo
Abrasive blasting of the interior of the tank
Recoating the interior of the tank
Cleaning up the work site

In addition, the Golf Ball water tower will have its exterior coating completely removed and recoated.  This will require that a “shroud” be erected for the entire height of the tank.  The Golf Ball appearance and Lakeway logo will be replaced.

There will be considerable activity around the tanks including delivery trucks, cleaning and painting equipment, and personnel.  The air compressor for the abrasive blasting machine will make droning engine noise, with occasional blasts or ‘whooshes’ of air pressure release.  The District appreciates our neighbors’ forbearance as we intrude into the usual quiet of the neighborhood.  If you have any questions, or comments especially complaints, about how the contractor is proceeding, please call the District at 261-6222, Ext 10.
