Residential Free Toilet Program

Did you know that toilets can be one of the biggest water wasters inside your home?

Upgrading your toilets can save you thousands of gallons of water and money on your utility bills.

Lakeway Municipal Utility District’s Free Toilet Program, in partnership with LCRA, is designed to help you save water. Through the District’s Free Toilet Program, you can replace up to two toilets per residence with the new generation of 1.28 gallon per flush toilets with the EPA WaterSense label. The WaterSense label applies to toilets and other products that are certified by independent laboratory testing to meet criteria for both performance and efficiency.

To participate in this program, you must:

  • Install the toilets at a residence with an active Lakeway MUD water account.
  • Install the toilets at a residence built before 1996.
  • Complete an application and have it approved by District staff.

Where and when can you pick up the toilets?

You can redeem your vouchers for toilets at the plumbing supply stores listed below:

How do I fill out an application and have it approved?

Potential program participants need to do the following:

Step 1: Fill out an application:

  • Download an application.
  • Pick up an application at the District Office.

Step 2: Submit a completed application to the District by:

  • Dropping it off at the District Office.
  • Mailing it to the District Office at

Step 3: Receive your voucher:

District staff will review your application. If you qualify, they will print your voucher for the toilets. You may request to receive the voucher via email, fax or you can return to the District Office and pick it up.

Step 4: Pick up your toilets:

Take your voucher to a retailer listed above.

You may also use your voucher to select approved WaterSense toilets at the retailer.

Step 5: Install your new toilets:

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to install the toilets.

All vouchers expire June 15, 2012.
